A 3-night immersion exploring the architecture of a great yoga class.

For yoga teachers in the early years of teaching who are seeking an injection of inspiration and a sense of belonging.

WHY THIS EXISTS

The idea for this immersion was born out of conversations I've been having on mentoring calls. The same things kept coming up...

Teaching yoga can be one of the most beautiful jobs in the world. It can also be one of the loneliest.

You finish your teacher training hopped up to the eyeballs, inspired and certain you've found your thing. Then reality sets in. You start teaching. You question yourself. You get stuck on sequencing. You fall into the comparison trap.

Some weeks you’re inspired. Other weeks you’re not. You wonder whether you're actually any good, whether you're growing (or plateauing?), or whether this path is sustainable at all.

We all bump up against these same obstacles yet most of us think we’re alone in that experience.

After nearly a decade of teaching, facilitating and more recently mentoring yoga teachers, one thing has become crystal clear to me: There’s a significant gap in our industry.

Teacher training does a good job of helping us become teachers. But there are few spaces for those teachers to continue developing beyond YTTs.

Teachers don't need more information. We need places to practise. We need spaces to come together and have honest conversations. We need thoughtful feedback. We need community.

The Practice exists because I believe teachers deserve spaces where they can continue to grow long after their YTT has finished. Places where we can lean on each other, refine our skills together, celebrate one another, and ask the questions that don’t always have answers.

And because yoga teachers deserve a retreat too. In this role you’re holding space for others, in service of the room and giving your energy. You can’t give from an empty well.

Imagine…

The best bits of a Yoga Retreat: Delicious food; Long, juicy yoga practices; Nature and spaciousness.

And the best parts of a YTT: Like-hearted humans. Deep diving and full frothing on yoga things. Nerding out. Asking all the quessies.

Now put them together, combination style

That’s what The Practice is.

WHAT WE’LL EXPLORE

The weekend is built around three simple pillars.

CRAFT

We'll spend the weekend unpacking the architecture of a great yoga class. Part theory. Part discussion. Part practice.

We'll work with a sequencing framework I've been refining after nearly a decade of teaching experience.

We'll use it to pull classes apart, build them back together, experiment and teach. This is where the gold is. Practice, reps and feedback.

Together we'll explore what makes classes feel smooth, cohesive and deeply human. We’ll also riff on the subtle and sticky stories we tell ourselves that get in the way of fully showing up for our students.

COMMUNITY

Teaching can be a pretty solo journey at times. In isolation, it’s easy to slip into self-doubt stories. We need a network of support.

For a lot of us, what was once our sacred space - the yoga studio - then becomes our place of work. In the process it can feel like we’ve lost access to our ‘third space’.

This weekend is as much about the ‘invisible curriculum’ as the sessions themselves; the moments between classes that no facilitator can plan. They simply arise organically in conversation and in togetherness.

This is a chance to gather in community, be inspired, plug into source and reconnect with your truth.

There’ll be plenty of lols - maybe a few tears (love a cry) - and you’ll leave with a bunch of new mates.

RESTORATION

I've watched so many teachers pour themselves into holding space for everyone else while quietly neglecting themselves (guilty!).

You can only give to the extent at which you can receive. If you’re running on empty, that’s what will be transmitted in your classes.

Rest isn't an option. It's part of becoming a great teacher; one who is fully resourced and therefore one who can fully show up for their students.

Over the weekend there'll be plenty of spaciousness. Time to nature-bathe, pool dip, sauna relax, take a nap, read a book, unravel. .

THE EXPERIENCE

You'll arrive Thursday afternoon to a slow, warm welcome. Following a mellow movement practice we’ll share good food, good company and have time to land.

Friday and Saturday are our play days.

Mornings begin with movement, breath-work and stillness. Big, beautiful brunch will be shared before gathering in the dojo for workshop things. Think circle yarns, bit of theory, discussion and practice.

Post lunch your afternoons will be spacious. Time to let things soak in; swim in the pool, sit in the sauna, wander the rainforest, sleep in the sun, drink tea.

Evenings will bring us back together around the dinner table and fire pit. General good vibes.

Sunday is for integration and closing. One final hoorah practice, a celebratory meal together, and a closing circle. You'll be on the road by early arvo, maybe a quick slip to the beach before heading home…

WHERE? THE SHOBO.

The Practice will be held at our home, The Shobo, tucked away on three hectares of land in Lower Main Arm on Bundjalung Country. The land itself is pretty special. Surrounded by rainforest and cocooned by Koonyum Mountain range, you wake to the dawn chorus and hear the song of kookaburras and birds all day long.

Over the last year we’ve been slowly, lovingly building this place into something we've dreamed of for a long time: A place of gathering.

We've converted an old dairy barn into the Shobo Dojo: part yoga studio, part communal space. (It's a big fat vibe.)

You'll stay in your own beautiful bell-tent nestled through the gardens - glamping darling. Each has its own proper mattress and all the cosy things. Fairy lights will light the path at night time. Think yoga retreat meets doof (but cute).

The land offers little rainforest tracks, a pool, a six-person sauna, a teepee for magic things and plenty of quiet corners to read, write, nap or simply sit under the trees.

This is the first retreat we'll be hosting here and I am beyond excited to welcome you.

WHO IS THIS FOR

This immersion is for yoga teachers.

Maybe you’ve been teaching part-time for a year. Maybe you’re fresh out of YTT and keen to get stuck in. Or perhaps you’ve been doing the ‘full time’ thing for a while and feeling uninspired.

This weekend is for the teacher who is curious, devoted and longing for that community feel.

ONE LAST THING

One of the greatest gifts my teacher Noelle ever gave me wasn't another sequencing hack or cueing framework.

It was permission to be myself.  And the reminder that teaching is a practice too.

We keep showing up, we keep listening and we keep refining what we do.

The most valuable thing you can give to your students is your presence.

That's what this weekend is about. Not ‘perfecting’ things but instead fine-tuning, listening and becoming a more honest teacher in the process.

Sometimes all we need is a little circuit breaker in a beautiful place with good people to help us remember.
